Now for my project.  Santa needs a plate of Cookies when he stops by on Christmas Eve right, so I have altered a clear glass plate.

IMG_0954[1]

First make sure your plate is free of fingerprints.

Using decoupage medium, adhere your images to the outside of the plate (non-eating side).  Using firm pressure push out as many air bubbles as possible.  Sit aside to let dry and cure overnight.

For this particular plate, I used gilding flakes by applying the gilding adhesive according to manufacturers directions, then applied the flakes.  I then burnished the flakes into the adhesive.

Once done burnishing I applied 2 coats of a waterbased varnish/sealer or you could use the decoupage medium for this step too.

NOTE:  This plate should not be washed in water.  My past plates I have just used a damp cloth to clean

Another option instead of using gilding flakes would be to choose 2 colors of acrylic paint and using a sponge pounce them on, allowing each color to dry in between.  Once you have pretty much covered the surface, use a metallic acrylic paint, like silver or gold and pounce on as well for the glitz.

If you have any questions please comment here and I will help you out.  Hope you enjoy my project.  Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you guys next post.  Take care, Teresa

Promotional Project: Designs by Shellie, Beauty in Blues, Altered Book Box

Ok this is the last one for today.  I have used the newest in the Design by Shellie, paper line, Beauty in Blues to alter a Paper Mache Book Box.

After painting the edges, and cutting, distressing and inking the papers, I started by attaching seam binding as a closure.

Using hot glue, I adhered the lace in places where I knew the paper would hide the glue.  I also adhered the Rose trim with hot glue.

I then used matte medium to adhere the papers down on the edges and inside the box. I added flat back pearls around the edges.

I used foam tape to build up the images on the front and back (due to the rose trim) and adhered those with a heavy duty adhesive and a spot or three of hot glue to set it quick.

Then the fun time began, I adhered my flower cluster on one corner, then on the opposite corner I just started laying down bits and pieces of broken jewelry from my stash and added some pearls and beads for color.

I really had a good time altering this box and can’t wait to start using it.  I hope you like my project.

For more inspiration using Designs by Shellie papers, check out her YouTube channel at:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCtE21yLTiwW5g_KQbK04jw

Main Audition Project for Designs by Shellie, Altered Advent Calendar House

Hey y’all, just popping in to share my Main Audition Project for Designs By Shellie DT.

As a semi-finalist, I received the Designs by Shellie, Classic Christmas Traditions paper pad, and other items to use for designing my project.

I used an MDF wood Advent Calendar House with chipboard drawers that I had in my stash.

I hope you like what I have created.  Thanks for taking the time to stop by.  Have a greeeeat day.  Take Care, Teresa

Instructions for Advent Calendar

  1. Construct base and drawers.
  2. Paint edges of base and drawers in a complimentary color to the papers selected, also base coat your wood embellishments at this time, and during drying times you can add the detail painting as needed.
  3. While paint is drying you can select, cut and ink all the papers needed.
  4. Once dry, using a decoupage medium adhere papers to the base, and add a protective coat over entire base once all papers are adhered. Allow to dry and cure thoroughly (Will be cured when it no longer feels tacky)
  5. Using a double sided tape product I adhered the papers to the chipboard drawers.
  6. Using Gold, Silver and White embossing powders, I embossed the numbers for the calendar. I fussy cut words and images from the paper line to decorate the fronts of the drawers.
  7. Adhered the images and words to the front of the drawers using Art Glitter Glue, once that was dry, I adhered the numbers to the drawers.
  8. I used the lady and child from the Classic Christmas Traditions line as a place to start my scene in the top of the house; I first put the fireplace against the wall, and then used scrap wood bits to build up the rocking chair to keep it away from the wall. Then I just added wood embellishments from my stash to make it appear as Christmas has already come to this home.
  9. For the Sled and reindeer on the roof, I used 3D Matte Medium to hold them to the roof (the trick is to put a generous amount up the roof and let it start to set up, then put the sled and reindeer on. Once that was dry I put more of the medium around the base of the sled and reindeer, I wasn’t worried about it looking messy or showing since I used the shaved ice as snow to hide the globs on medium.  Hot glue will NOT hold these pieces in place.
  10. Finally, I added a snowman on one side of the house and a Sugar Plum Fairy on the other.
  11. Don’t forget, it is the details that make a project. For instance, the guitar at the base of rocking chair, was just a plain wood embellishment, I used paint color it a guitar color, then white gel pen to note the chords, black pen to mark the fret marks, and added 3 pieces of sewing thread for guitar strings, the puzzle piece on the floor beside it was glued to a piece of the paper line and cut off, used glossy accents on top to make it shiny.

Audition for Designs by Shellie DT, using Tranquil Gardens

Mornin everyone hope your week is proceeding uneventfully.  Just popping by to share one of my submissions as a Semi-Finalist for the Designs by Shellie DT.  You can see all the wonderful submissions from the 15 semi-finalist on Shellie’s blog at:  jshobbiesandcrafts.com

You can find all of Shellie’s papers on the website as well as many other crafting goodies.

So for my project I altered a dollar store mirror using an image from Designs by Shellie, Tranquil Gardens.  I adhered the image with a liberal amount of a matte medium and several coats on top of image for protection.

Once that cured, I then layered a fancy trim on the mirror side and added a chinese braid like trim to hide the glue on the trim. I added a small pearl trim on the mirror to “hide” the edge of the mirror.

On the image side of the mirror I layered three different trims. Then pulled out my broken jewelry bits, pearls, beads, and flowers and adhering with hot glue and a heavy duty adhesive.

Hope you like what I have created for my audition,
